Show Valley Coordinating Council Plans Work on New Recreation Building ESCALANTE VALLEY At the General Coordinating Council meeting April 2 a large group of Esealante Valley residents discussed dis-cussed the work on the new recreation rec-reation building. Council President Presi-dent Niels Nielson again asked for volunteers to fill the continuing continu-ing vacancy of chairman of the building committee, created by the resignation of Bruno Biasi, who left the valley. Don Apple-gate, Apple-gate, president of the local Lions Club agreed to take on the big job, and Alex Wood, Arthur Piper Pi-per and David Love were appointed ap-pointed to serve with him on this committee. Mr. Applegate stated that a work day would be held at the building each Saturday as in the past, and that in addition ad-dition they would plan to work every day that rain prevented the m?n of the valley from farming. farm-ing. In addition, materials are now on hand to begin the partition parti-tion walls and the stage, and Mr. Applegate has Informed us that any time any man or group of men are free to work on the building he can be reached at the school, or one of the com-mitee com-mitee will be available to lay out some work for them. The building has reached the point t where even one man working alone could accomplish quite a. lot. I David Love of the building; committee presented the following follow-ing progress report on the build-j lng, with regard to the contribu-' tion made by the valley in matching funds allocated by the Iron County Recreation Commit-! tee. For 1057: Labor contributed to Jan. 1. 1958, $1,947.75 (1113 hours at $1.75); 10 hours welding, $17.-! 50; 1 load gravel from St. George, ' I $25.00; 4 loads local gravel, $1".-00; $1".-00; Carryall hauling in fill dirt. 6 hours at $12 per h;ur, $72.00; Cleanup by hoys. 83 hours at SI per hour. $J.()0. The coordinating council dis cussed the various typ 's heat ing systems which were avail able for use, and also the various vari-ous types of lighting fixtures available. It was voted to per mit the building committee to use its own judgment in selecting select-ing these Items on the basis of cost, safety and convenience Mrs. Miriam McGarry was ap pointed by the council to begin work on planning the decorating decorat-ing scheme for the new build ing, and was Instructed to contact con-tact Cedar City decorators In this regard. Another Item of importance which was discussed by the council was the Scholia Creek Dam which was put In several years ago to prevent floods from damaging property In the general gener-al area of the school and nelTh boring farms. It was reported that this dam has been damaged and that it should either be re paired or taken out, as the pos slbllity of dammed up water sud denly released by the defective structure was far more danger ous than a run-off fHod by It self would be.
