Show Industrial ' Horsepower ' Grows' In Utah Horsepower of factory equipment in the manufacturing industries has grown rapidly over the years. Four of the 21 manufacturing groups primary metals, me-tals, chemical, transportation equipment, equip-ment, petroleum and Coal account for a little more than half of the total horsepower horse-power used in industry. The gain of horsepower per production produc-tion worker since 1919 has been particularly particu-larly sharp. Latest data show that the petroleum and coal industry provide 4G horsepower for each production employee, employ-ee, followed by chemicals with 29 horsepower horse-power and primary metals with 26. At the lower end of the range are the print-inc print-inc and nublishing and leather indus tries wliicli provlrle loss than one-fourth of one horsepower for each production worker. These gains have been made possible by the capital Investment Invest-ment of millions of dollars by Industry. The additional "muscle power" made available for workers work-ers permits greater productivi-t productivi-t yand has been the primary contributor to our rising standard stand-ard of living.
