Show Former Cedar Man Named to USUChemistryDept. - i - ; V -:. I i ill G. OLOF LARSON Appointment of G. Olof Lar-son. Lar-son. former Cedar City resident and now of Pullman, Wash., as assistant professor of chemistry at Utah State University was announced an-nounced Thursday by Dr. Daryl Chase, U S U president. Mr. Larson expects to complete work on his Ph. D. degree at Washington State College in Pullman early this month, said Dr. Carlton Culmsee, dean of University College. A native of Cedar City, he Is a son of Mr. and Mrs. G. O. Larson, Lar-son, Provo. He was educated in Cedar Cl.y schools and In Stock-holm, Stock-holm, Sweden, where his father served as president of the Swed-ish Swed-ish mission of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He graduated from College of Southern Utah In Cedar City in 1946 and 'eceived his B. S. degree de-gree from the University of Utah in T94S. The university also granted him an M. A. degree in organic chemistry In 1951 and he has studied at Washington State . since 1954 where he has been a research assistant and engaged in part time teaching. Title of his doctoral thesis at Washington State Is "Proximity Effect in the alkaline rearrangement rearrange-ment of substituted 1,2 dike-stones" dike-stones" (Benxillc Acid Rearrangement." Rear-rangement." He served in the U. S. Naval reserve and filled an LDS mission mis-sion to Sweden from 1951 to 1953. He will report for his new assignment as-signment at Utah State on Sept. 10. |
