Show BYUfl Cappella Choir Performs April 13 Mormon culture at its best will be portrayed by the Brig-ham Brig-ham Young University a cappel-la cappel-la choir on its annual tour which this year takes it to Nevada and southern California. Acclaimed by many critics to be one of the outstanding collegiate choral chor-al groups of the nation, this a cappella choir is to appear in Cedar City on Saturday, April 20. Professor Newell B. Weight, celebrated founder of the choir and former student of Olaf Christiansen, Chris-tiansen, who is director of the famed St. Olaf choir of Minnesota, Minne-sota, will be conducting. Rated as one of the most brilliant American directors in the choral field, Mr. Weight has been praised prais-ed by appreciative listeners and cirltics alike. The Deseret News of Salt Lake City, had this to say, . . . "An excellent choir . . . beautiful tone colorings and remarkable Intonation Mr. Weight Is a very fine conductor." Among those featured as solo, tsts are Marilyn Christensen and Howard Putnam. Marilyn Is a student from Pasadena and ts a popular vocalist on campus. Mr. Putnam, outstanding young baritone, bari-tone, is from Ontario. Ore., and is active In both music and drama. dra-ma. Another southern California girl, Sharon Benson, from Pamo-na. Pamo-na. will also have a solo part. The beautiful repetoire of the a cappella choir ranges from early sacred music to folk so?s and contemporary works.
