Show Iron County Commissioners Handle Routine Business, Set Budget Hearing Two roads recommended for possible graveling in the Escal- j ante Valley were under inspec-' tion this week following a re- J quest at the meeting of the Iron County Commissioners in Paro-wan Paro-wan on Monday. Mrs. John Smith and Mrs.' Floyd Taylor of Richland met with the commission to request the graveling of two roads In the area. The first is a stretch v -th : from Highway 56 to intersex an east-west graveled road i.i the c-ea and the second is a one and one-half mile strip from Beryl to the Lund Highway. A request "was also made from the Richland delegation for participation partici-pation in the roofing of the fire-house fire-house at Richland and the construction con-struction of a tie-down at the air strip there. The commission asked that an estimate of materials ma-terials for the projects be presented pre-sented to help with a determination determin-ation of the request at a later date. A subdivision to be know as the Sunset Mountain Subdivision located in Section 1, Township 36 South, Range 9 West, was presented pre-sented and approved by the commission com-mission pending signature of the Iron County Planning Commission. Commis-sion. The commission heard a request re-quest from the Governor's office for an appointment of a member mem-ber to the Utah Craftsman Council. Coun-cil. After discussion the request was tabled. Meeting with the commission was Mayor Osmer K. Nielsen of Parowan, for the purpose of making a financial report on the Parowan City Libraiy which the county participated in construction construc-tion costs. Mayor Nielsen reviewed review-ed the project and the responsibility respon-sibility of Iron County. He reported re-ported that the total cost of the library was $100,990.69, less $6,000 for a portion of the facility facili-ty to be used as Parowan City offices, bringing the construction balance to $94,990.69. Iron County Coun-ty had agreed to pay 70 of the construction costs or $66,493.48 and a balance was pending on that portion of $4,968.85. Follow-Ing Follow-Ing the report the payment of the balance was authorized and a check was issued during the week to clear the account In session the commission approved ap-proved the closing of the county offices in Parowan and Cedar City on December 24. On motion of Commissioner Norman Day the commission approved ap-proved that funds now in the County Fair Grounds construction construc-tion account be turned over to the Red Hill Wranglers for use in improvements at the Parowan City race track and rodeo grounds. Amount of the fund was not determined pending determination de-termination of obligations possibly possi-bly outstanding. i The commission set Monday, Dec. 27 as the date for a hearing hear-ing on the proposed budget for the county for 1966. Hearing will be held at the courthouse In Parowan Par-owan on that date at 2 p. m., according to Keith Smith, chairman chair-man of the commission. |
