Show CSU Board of Trustees Lay Future Development Plans Proceeding of the meeting held by the College of Southern Utah Board of Trustees in Salt Lake City Thursday, December 9 in- ; eluded discussion on long-range campus nla-.s that could eventually eventu-ally provide for 3,500 to 4,(XK) students. Dr. Koyden C. Braith- waite, CSU president, and Glen A. Lloyd, Salt Lake City architect archi-tect serving as campus planning consultant, presented tentative plans to the board ior proposed campus expansion. The plan visualizes the extension exten-sion of the campus to the west with the possibility of locating the new stadium and playing fields in the area. Proposed housing plans would include high-rise dormitories for single students located south of the campus in the general area occupied by Juniper Hall and Manzanita Court. Married student stu-dent housing and a new LDS institute would be constructed north of the campus. Location of a new student center cen-ter is invisioned north of Oak Hall with 550 West between Center Cen-ter St. and 200 South closed to traffic. Plans are already underway for a new l brary to occupy the j north end of the present stadium I and proposals are under consid eration for a fine arts complex west of the new music center, which is now under construction. The Board heard proposals for converting the Escalante Hotel Unto a men's residence with cafe, teria service. The remodled building build-ing would accomodate 175 to 185 students and would also serve as a center for continuing education. The estimated cost for converting the structure is $5.'2,200 including includ-ing $140,000 purchase cost. A new I entrance would be added to the west with a lounge area. The porch on the east would be replaced. re-placed. The Board deferred action on the proposal. Frank R. Jex, mechanical inspector in-spector for the State Building Board, was named director of campus development and management man-agement for CSU effective December De-cember 20. Mr. Jex has previously previous-ly been connected with Brigham Young University and the Alpine School District , The Board approved submls-; submls-; slon of corrective legislation for ( consideration in the special ses- slon of the Utah Legislature in ' January. Five proposed bills " would give the col', ge power to bond; a share in state Uniform School Fund research monies; a e representative on the Utah Coot-s Coot-s dinatlng Council of Higher Edu- cation; the power to grant bacca-f bacca-f laureate degrees; and a share in 1 state financed scholarships.. |
