Show Redmen Emerge Victorious In Opening Play A successful opening of the 1960-61 basketball season was staged by the Cedar -City High School Redmen before a sparse crowd at College of Southern fieldhouse Friday evening. Coach Bruce Decker unveiled a potent squad that defeated a highly ranked South Sevier quintet quin-tet by a score of 61 to 45. In posting the victory Coach Decker used all 13 of his men who were suited for the contest and ten of them hit the scoring column with three breaking into the double figures, providing a diversified scoring attack. The 61 point output against a much taller team from South Sevier Se-vier was also an impressive feature fea-ture of the evening. Only five of the South Sevier squad got into the scoring column col-umn and LaMar Madsen and Dick Korbush dominated the scoring with 16 and 13 points, respectively re-spectively for the high output of the evening. Steve Cahoon, veteran forward for the Redmen, was high man for Cedar with 12 points followed by Blaine Cutler and Kent Furns-worth Furns-worth with 10 each anrl nine points by sophomore Nell Roberts. Rob-erts. The Redmen got things to fast start capitalizing on the fast break to take a lead, a lead which they never relinquished. Cutler got things golr with a foul shot then a cripple on the fast break to store the first three points. Cahoon followed i with another basket on the fast break and the Redmen had a S ! to 0 lead. 1 1 That set the stage, and al-i al-i though the Redmen did not work the fast break as effectively dur-i dur-i ing the remainder of the game the Cedar City crew had taken , the initiative and they carried it f throughout thexontest. The Redmen moved to a 14 to 7 first quarter lead and led by 10 points 29 to 19 at the halfway half-way mark. ,--rter- rn-"-h rwvr were fo.ward Caiuj.i and ronior 'Ji-A Anderson; at the guard line was Blaine Cutler and Spencer Jones, both seniors, and at the center spot was Neil Roberts, a sophomore. sopho-more. Cutler proved to be the top ball handler on the floor and engineered engi-neered the early lead for the Redmen. Anderson started off strong on the boards he picked pick-ed up seven points in the game as well, and although only a sophomore, N. The Redmen showed good depth as well with Juniors Farns-worth, Farns-worth, Donnie Roberts, Paul Stokes, - David Higbee, Kent iSmith, Robert Lee and Scott Tru-jmnn, Tru-jmnn, capable of carrying the load when they were given the opportunity.
