Show CSUBroncs Show Scoring Prowess Fans of the College of Southern South-ern Utah Broncos got Just one glimpse of the 1900-61 basketball basket-ball squad Saturday evening as It downed Magic Valley Christian College of Idaho 92 to 61 in the season opener. Now the Broncos go on the road not to return to the home court again until Thursday, Dec. 22. Wha' fans saw gave them hope for a fine season at CSU. The squad Is short In stature, but Is long on desire and with a number of boys who seem capable capa-ble of splitting the strings with their outside shooting. Magic Valley has been beaten bea-ten all along the line In their swing into Utah. They were defeated 88 to 75 by Ricks College of Rexhurg. Idaho, Ida-ho, a member of the Intermoun-tain Intermoun-tain Collegiate Conference; were severely beaten by Westminstei College of Salt Lake City and fell to Carbon at Price before meeting meet-ing Cleo Petty's Broncos. It was the first game of the season for CSU and in the early stages the two squads fought it out on fairly even terms. Toward the end of the first half of play the Broncos found their stride and with Eric Gardner and Ken-yon Ken-yon Clark doing some fine shooting shoot-ing in the late stages of the game the Broncos moved to a 39 to 22 halftlme margin. The pace continued in the second sec-ond half with Ron VanWagener, George Rekoutis and Earl Severance, Sever-ance, along with Gardner and Clark, all hitting well. CSU moved mov-ed to a 66 to 34 lead before Coach Petty called on his reserves. , Petty sent in the remainder of his bench he had only 10 men dressed for the game. They included Dave Voegle, Meredith Johnson, Garry Shumway, who is still wearing a brace from a shoulder injury in football; Ken Mackay and Dennis Belliston. Belllston had seen considerable action in the first half as well. This new squad was slow starting, but as the boys warmed up they were able to hold their own with the crew, from Idaho and moved the bronco score over the 80 mark. The first team was called on in the final minutes of play and they pushed the score to 92. The Broncos tire a fast moving team and they used the fast break to good advantage over Magic Valley, and showed some fine ball handling ability as well.
