Bull brought $1175, top price off the sale. i r)- vAk RESERVE CHAMPION of the Hereford Bull Sale in Cedar City was consigned by J. Holman Waters, owner of Mil-holm Mil-holm Farms of Salt Lake City. Kenneth Jones, left, of Cedar Ce-dar City and his father, Lehi Jones, were purchasers of the prize bull for $600. Seventy-oiffht top Hereford bulls from throughout the state of Utah went before the auction block at the Southwest South-west Livestock Show Barn in Cedar City Tuesday at the First Annual Hereford Bull Sale sponsored by the Utah Hereford Association and the Iron County Cattlemen's Association. As-sociation. A total of $36,300 was paid for the 78 animals for an average price of $465 per head. The grand champion of the sale, consigned by Warren Wilberg Wil-berg and Sons of Castle Dale, brought $1175 for top price in the sale. Cleo Wood of Cedar City purchased the grand champion, according to Snell Swenson, Spanish Fork, secretary of the association and general . manager man-ager of the sale. The sale was promoted by the Utah Hereford Association to offer of-fer a market within the state for the top animals that have been taken out of the state in the past to market , - Sale Successful According to Swenson the sale was termed successful with prices equivalent to those paid In other Intermountaln sales and on a par with other Western States sales. "I believe that the consignees from throughout the state were satisrield with the sale and I think the buyers will be satisfied as well," Swenson said. All indications are that the sale, as planned, will become an annual affair. Reserve Champion Reserve Grand Champion of the show was ehlbited by Mil-holm Mil-holm Firms of Salt Lake City and it brought $G0O from Lehl and Kenneth Wood of Cedar City. Two of the bulls were sold for $900 each. One was exhibited by Peterson Bros, of Ogden and was purchased by John D. Lewis of Monticello and the other was consigned by College of Southern Utah and purchased by Ira and Roy Yardley of Beaver. A bull consigned by Paul Ha-fen Ha-fen of St. George brought $800 from K. S. Summer of Monticello Monticel-lo and Cleo Wood, purchaser of the grand champion paid $300 for another bull consigned by Mil-holm Mil-holm Farms of Salt Lake City. I S. A. Hollinger of Ploche, Nev. paid $700 for a bull from the Wareham Hereford Farm, at Fer-ron Fer-ron and Warren Wilberg and Sons consigned a bull which brought $fG0 from Wendell Jones of Cedar City. Champion Pen The champion pen of two bulls consigned by Peterson Bros, of Agden brought $500 each from Elmer Jackson of Kanab. Other top purchaser of the sale were Rex Whittaker of Circle-ville Circle-ville and Vivian Deardon of Gar-rison Gar-rison who each purchased eight bulls. EmU Graff of Hurricane bought five bulls and Henry Carroll Car-roll and Sons of Orderville went home with four of the Hereford stock. In addition to the grand champion cham-pion and reserve champions first and second place winners in each class were announced by the secretary as follows: Two year olds: Wlnterton Eros.
