Show Cedar Chamber Of Commerce Slates Elections Nominations for officers fo the Cedar" City Chamber of Com-' merce have been completed this week, nd candidates naired, it; v;as announced by D. W. Coiry.j president I Under the change in blyaws which were approved at a special spe-cial meeting of the Chamber of Commerce Wednesday the board of directors of the organization will be reduced to Just seven members over the next two year period, with three to be elected one year and four the following year, both for two year terms. Change also was made to reduce re-duce the length of office of the president and vice president from two year terms to just one year terms. One of the major reasons for this change was the advent this past year of a full-time executive ex-ecutive secretary, who will be charged with the responsibility of continuity In the chamber pro-1 grams. . i Named as candidates for tne position of president were Robert Rob-ert C. Hansen, manager of Drug Center In Cedar City, and Loren "Whetten, an accountant in the firm of Southwick and Whetten. Both have been active civic workers in the community. Named to vie for the position of vice president were two mem- j bers of the College of Southern Utah faculty, D. C. Schmutz and A. W. Stephenson. This year three board members will be elected for two year terms. Candidates will vie against one another for the board position to attempt to get a true rfryi trriiM-v.i ,t .... . . , Its organizations and industries, Corry stated. Dr. Paul Lunt and Dixie Lea- vltt will vie for one of the board positions; Floyd Atkln and Fredj LaFrentz, pother and the third contest will be between Lehl M. Jones and Kenneth Middleton. Mr. Corry will have completed complet-ed a two-year term as president of the Chamber of Commerce and out-going vice president will be R. L. Gardner. Retiring board members will be Dr. Lunt, Roy P. Urie, E. O. Larsen. Rulon Woodbury and Robert Ro-bert White. Five holdover members will serve during 1961 to complete ' two year elective terms. They are Charles Cooley. Gwen Bcal, Robert Rob-ert Hansen, Carlos Black and Royce Chamberlain. Formerly the board was made tip of 11 members. At the end of 1961 only four new board members will be elected to con-from con-from to the new seven man board of directors. The streamlining of the Cham-1 ber of Commerce organization Is In keeping with a program of advancement and utilization of the full-time executive position, which has been filled by Milton R. Jolley. Competition for Industries, for the tourist dollar, and for the general program of the chamber has changed the functions of the organization somewhat and demands de-mands closer attention by a full-time full-time employee.
