Show Many Summer Recreation Progams j To Get Underway in Cedar by June 10 Cedar City's summer recreation program is slated to move into full swing on Monday, June 10 with a number of other events slated for earlier opening dates, accordine to Kenneth Benson, di rector of the program. i Tentatively plans have been made to open the Cedar City swimming pool on Monday, June 3, but full programs of instruction instruc-tion and activities will not begin until a week later. Regularly organized baseball programs of Little and Pony League are also slated to begin earlier. Little Leagues of Cedar City got underway Wednesday evening and the opening game of the Pony League season is set for Monday evening, June 3. Minor league baseball for boys 8 through 12 years of age is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, June 11. On Sunday. June 9, the recreation recrea-tion department will undertake a palnt-up project at the baseball base-ball parks. On that date all bleachers and fences at the parks will be painted in a general fix-up fix-up program, Benson said. A special feature of the summer sum-mer program will be a ten weeks class on oil painting to be taught by Glen Anderson. The course will be held ori Wednesday evenings even-ings at 7 p. m. at the High School Art Room. The class will begin, June 12 and run through August I 21 and will include a Saturday i field trip. A $7 fee to cover cost 1 of materials will be charged. All phases of Boy Scout swim-' swim-' ming will be offered at the mun-i mun-i Icipal pool. Red Cross swimming ! for beginners, intermediate and ' advanced will also be offered, j Personnel of the pool will instruct in-struct in Part 1, including water safety and the Red Cross will provide instruction for advanced phases of the training program. For the girls a total program is being planned for the entire summer. Activities planned include in-clude tennis for jl'.I age groups; dancing, all kinds for all age groups: bicycling and twirling. Adult tennis is also being planned and for the younger set story telling sessions are on the agenda as well as several afternoons after-noons of supervised play periods per-iods at the city park. The recreation department Is also contemplating sponsorship of two summer camps one for boys and one for girls. These, Benson stated, will be worked out to fit Into other programs already al-ready organized. Another special feature of the program contemplated by the department is a program of social so-cial dancing for adults. The event would feature ballroom dancing including Instructions. .
