These are the two pitchers who led the Cedar National League to victory in the district tournament conducted in Cedar City. Both boys showed excellent control in winning each of their games. Left is Allen Bratton and right Is Fred Livermore. Both are 12 years of age. 1 (Ydar City National Little League, host to a six-team district dis-trict tournament this past week, won the riht to advance to the State Finals at Nephi this Friday Fri-day and Saturday, with two impressive im-pressive wins. Nov., All -SLirs to defeat them 7 to 4 and Saturday posted a 6 to 3 victory over Juao to gain the state berth. A second team in the district tournament won the right to advance. ad-vance. It was Rosecrest League of Salt Lake City. Rosecrest handed Fillmore .a 12 to 3 setback set-back in the opening round of play. Then Saturday they staged , the comeback of the year, overcoming over-coming a 13 to 1 lead at the end of the third Inning held by Sunrise Sun-rise League of St. George, to come on and win by a score of 18 to 15. Opening Round Byes In the six-team tournament Juab and St. George Sunrise drew opening round byes. Steve Martin led the Rosecrest team to victory in the win over Filmore, with his batting, collecting col-lecting three hits in four trips, including a double and homer jn. He also relieved Randy Dimmit, who started on the mound. Roso- crest had 11 hits, Fillmore had five. In Saturday's contest St. George got off to a rousing start with four runs In the first inning in-ning on home runs by Jack Adams and Stewart Spendlove. Martin of Rosecrest homered In the second but St. George came back with nine runs on five hits, four singles and a double by Jimmy Milne to take a 13 to 1 lead. , Rosecrest bounced back In the ' " " v bottom of the frame with three runs on four hits. St George added two In the top of the fourth to ' tch the lead to 15 to 5, but .vas the final tally for the St. George crew. In the bottom of the fourth Rosecrest pushed in six runs on two hits including a three run homer by Mark Higglns and pounded out six hits scoring seven runs in the bottom of the fifth to take the lead, then held in the sixth for the f'r.ai victory. In ilie fuiii Higgins hit his second homer of the game and Chuck Blakesley added a two run hoxnr. Outstanding Defense In Cedar National's two bat-les bat-les some fine pitching and superb defensive play were credited cred-ited with the two wins. Allen Bratton, on the mound against Lincoln County, allowed only six hits, three in the sixth inning, and Fred Livermore chucked In the championship game, allowing allow-ing only four hits. Aside from the hits only one free pass was given in each game, a hit batter by Bratton In the first and a walk by Livermore against Juab. Against Lincoln County Wade Roberts started things off, draw-ing draw-ing a walk as the first batter. In the bottom bot-tom of the sixth Alfred Smith I of Cedar walked, Scott Lunt walked and Roberts singled to ! drive In Smith, and Lunt scored Cedar's final run on a passed ball. Lincoln County bounced back in the sixth when Walker lived on an error followed by back to back home runs by Christian and Cutler. Two more hits and an error scored another run, but Cedar City snuffed out the rally ral-ly on a force at home and a pop fly. In the contest Cedar pulled off two double plays one go- ing from Russell at third to Steve Rollo at second to Anderson Ander-son at first. The second was a force out at first following a caught fly In left field by Llvermore. Llver-more. Again the Cedar defense came in for note as they defeated Juab 6 to 3. Neither team scored in the first three innings of play and Cedar National started the scoring in the top of the fourth. Rollo and Lunt drew walks to put men on first and second. They advanced to second and third on a sacrifice and Fred Llvermore singled to score both runners. In the bottom of the frame, however, Juab bounced back with two runs of their own without with-out benefit of a hit but aided by three errors, to tie the score. |
