Show Saturday Services Held for William U.Thornton Funeral services for William U. Thornton, 88 year old resident of Parowan were held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 in the Third ward chapel with Bishop Karl O. Mitchell conducting. Speakers were Bishop Mitchell, Francis Bowler of the St. George Temple presidency; Ronald Pace, a grandson of Mr. Thornton, who has just returned from an L D S mission to South Africa. Mrs. Myrtle Cochrane, Salt Lake City, read sentiments she had written, with organ accompaniment by Mrs. Itha Mortensen. The opening prayer was by Samuel J. Whitney, the closing one by Arthur Joseph, and the grave in the city cemetery was dedicated by a grandson, T. Gay Myers, Moapa, Nev., stake president. presi-dent. The musical program was as follows: the opening and closing songs, "Come Unto Me", and "Lead Me Gently Home", respectively, respec-tively, by a mixed quartet consisting con-sisting of Mrs. Mary O. Topham, Mrs. Roberta B. Rowley, E. Ray Lyman and Karl Mitchell, accompanied ac-companied by Mrs. Mary Lyman; . . 1 1 4u T . rni . Tears", by Mrs. Topham with Mrs. Lyman at the piano and Silas Topham playing the violin obligato; a piano solo, "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" by Mrs. Lyman, and a vocal duet "Hold Thou My Hand" by two granddaughters, Mrs. Sherry T. Day and Mrs. Katrine T. Johnson John-son with Mrs. Mortensen at the piano. |
