Show Broncos Invade Provo for BYU Invitational Approximately 25 members of the Branch Agricultural college track and field team will embark em-bark for Provo to participate in the annual Brlgham Young Invitational In-vitational meet to be held this week end, according to Coach Dave Gates at the school. Meeting with Junior colleges of the Intermountain area, the Bronco squad will meet its first real competition of the season at the Provo meet, and will probably prob-ably find its stiffest competition competi-tion In the Ricks college Vikings squad from Rexburg, Idaho. Last year the Vikings captured the I C A C title after the Broncos had dominated the sport for six consecutive years and it is the aim Df the Broncos to recapture that crown as well as walk away from the Invitational meet with high honors. Other possible record smashers smash-ers will be Derald Evans in the j hiph jump, who has cleared 6 ft. 2 in., with the B Y U record at 6 ft. 214 inches. Short, but powerful power-ful Dud Fullmer has thrown the javelin a distance of 183 fect in an early meet this year, close to the record 186 ft. 11 In. mark of the B Y U meet. However, Fullmer Full-mer will not be able to participate partici-pate in this meet because of an injured ankle suffered in a recent re-cent baseball game. A. Jay Poul-son, Poul-son, sprint star for the Broncos for the second straight year will be trying for the 9.9 second 100 yard dash record of the Invi-Itationil. Invi-Itationil. He has run the dash in slightly over 10 seconds on rather rath-er poor tracks this spring. Following the BYU Invitational, Invita-tional, the Broncos will spent their time preparing for the I C A C meet to be held in Salt Lake City this year. |
