Show Little, Pony League Baseball Field Undertaken by Elks Rapid progress is being made on a community recreation program pro-gram adoped recently by the Cedar Ce-dar City Elks lodge, in which the lodge has undertaken a long-range long-range program to provide a playing play-ing field for Little League baseball base-ball in Cedar City. Lodge representatives submic- ted a request at the last meeting of the city council for permission to use a section of the recreation park east of the city for development develop-ment of a playing field. Permission Permis-sion was granted and work was started Immediately. Already the diamond has been surveyed and much of the leveling level-ing of the ground done. A most generous contribution toward the success of the project has been made by Vurge Smith, lodge member, who has furnished a tractor free of charge, and is operating op-erating it himself, to do all the leveling without cost to the organization. or-ganization. Collections from members have been made and funds raised to meet other expenses, ex-penses, The diamond will be ready for use in a very short period, and after the playing season is over, more work will be done including includ-ing installation of a sprinkling system, and planting the field to grass. Approximately 200 bys of Little Lit-tle League and Pony League ages have registered for participation parti-cipation in the activity this summer, sum-mer, and are anxiously awaiting the completion of the diamond so that they can start to play on their own field. Development of the field will be a major contribution contri-bution to the facilities offered at the new recreation area. |
