Show W. Scott Mitchell To Assume City Helm Tan. 4 On Monday noon, Jan. 4, W. Scott Mitchell will take over as Mayor of Parowan City in swearing swear-ing in ceremonies which will take place in the Parowan city office. Mr. Mitchell will succeed E. Ray Lyman, whom he defeated at the municipal election on Nov. c, and Mr. Lyman will retire from o lung period of service to Parowan Paro-wan city both as councilman and nihyor. At the same time E. J. King will be sworn in as a city councilman coun-cilman for another term, having been re-elected at the Nov. 3 election elec-tion to succeed himself, and Claude Orton will become a memDer or tne oouik.I, succeeding succeed-ing Edgar Benson, who did no run for re-election in November. All three of the above men were elected for four-year terms, Mr. Mitchell and Mr. Orton as democrats demo-crats and Mr. King as a republican. republi-can. When Mr. Mitchell takes over the position of mayor he will leave a vacancy in the city council coun-cil as he is a member of that body at the present time, with two years of his term remaining. remain-ing. So as soon as he is sworn in as mayor he will, with the consent of the council, name a new councilman to take his place. Also with the beginning of a new year, the new mayor will have the responsibility of filling a number of appointive jobs in the city administration, lie may re-appoint those who presently hold those jobs or he may change one or all of ihem, also with the confirming vote of the members mem-bers of the city council. Included in the list this year for the first time, is the city recorder. This has been an elective office heretofore here-tofore but this year becomes an appointive one because of recent action by the state legislature. Other appointive officers are city marshal, supervisor of works night watchman, sexton, city property custodian, collector of power and water rentals, power plant operators, city health officers offi-cers and attorney. |
