Show City Councilman Gives Answer To Bond Question I have had so many poople call regarding the recent bond election elec-tion for the bridge leading across Coal Creek to the recreation area, and asking why the Council allowed al-lowed this to happen, that I feel forced to make a statement. First, I would like everyone to know that the council was honest and sincere in every way in placing plac-ing this item on the ballot. We never knew until Dec. 17, six weeks after election, that it wasn't was-n't legal and valid. To my knowledge, the only ones in the City who knew before election that the bond issue was a farce and a waste of time, were the Mayor and City Attorney. Why they withheld this information from the council and from the people, I don't know, but I have my ideas. I'd just like at this time to apologize to the people whom I asked to work for the bond election, elec-tion, especially to the young boys of the Little League, who did a lot of leg work, passed hand bills, and asked every one they saw to be sure to vote for the bridge. These are the future voters of this city and I'll bet this deal will leave a sour taste in their mouths for a long time. Yes, we will have a bridge, but it is unfortunate that the money for it will have to come from other departments which are not in a position to have their appropriations ap-propriations cut. There is just one question in my mind. If one part of a ballot is illegal, isn't the whole thing illegal? The answer to this question ques-tion will have to come from some impartial attorney.
