Show Annual Basketball Tournament Termed Successful When the fcrurth annual Bronco Invitational Basketball Tournament Tourna-ment at the College of Southern Utah opened last week end it was feared that it would be necessary nec-essary to abandon the tournament tourna-ment after this year. However, every indication now points to a continuation of the popular meet. The college athletic department depart-ment suffered a rather severe fl-'nancial fl-'nancial loss as a result of the tournament in 1952, and if another an-other heavy loss had occurred this year, the meet certainly would have been discontinued. . This was not the case, however, how-ever, and since the 1953 tournament tourna-ment was a success linancially it is expected that the athletic council will approve holding the meet again next year. This year the meet was held to six teams instead of eight en- j : ,u. . ,i this, of course, reduced the expense. ex-pense. This also did away with the afternoon sessions which in the past have been a complete financial flop. While an eight team meet is better than a six from a competitive compet-itive standpoint, the tournament this year was exceptionally interesting in-teresting with practically all games very close and exciting. Official action on the 1954 tournament will not be taken for some time, but it is expected that it will be continued on a six-team, six-team, three-night basis. |
