Hall and Rogers were members of championship Fullerton team, while Evans is stalwart of CSU Bronco team. Other two members of all-star five, Wilford Hopkins of Ricks College, and Atwood Grandbcrry, San Bernardino, had played in earlier games and had left gym before final selections were made. during the pre-season schedule every man on the 12-man squad has seen a considerable amount of action. Different combinations have been tried, sometimes at the expense of a win, and every man has had the opportunity to work with every member of the squad. Jerry Frame, six foot one inch combination forward and center, has proved himself possibly the most consistent player on the squad and he has definitely held the scoring punch for the Red-men Red-men this year. Against Panguitch Pan-guitch last week he tanked six field goals and four out of six free throws to lead both teams with 16 points. Spending a good share of the time against Parowan Paro-wan on the bench, going in and out of the ball game, he still managed to score 12 points for the Redmen, hitting five field goals and two free throws. Although Coach Englestead has not designated five men as a starting team or as regulars, a few men have probaoly assured themselves of starting berths, including in-cluding Frame, Ronald Mclntire and Steve Lunt. With a list of seven losses in pre-season games behind him Coach Englestead is still looking forward to a fairly successful league season. He will open the season on Friday, Jan. 8 at Ka-nab Ka-nab and return to Cedar City for the first home game the following fol-lowing Friday evening, Jan. 15, against the Dixie Flyers. |
