Show Diversion Dam at Canyon Mouth Completed for Irrigation Company Final, work on the construction of a $17,179 diversion dam at the mouth of Cedar Canyon, just south of the "Red Hill" was completed com-pleted Wednesday by the Whit- ! ney Bios. Construction Company ol Salt Lake City and Springville. The control dam at the diver-I diver-I sion site, constructed to carry 50 second feet of water, was turned over to the South and West Field Irrigation Company, Moroni Perry, Per-ry, president. Purpose of the construction was to divert the water from Coal Creek, used by the irrigation company, and have the diversion dam constructed so as to withstand with-stand the many flash floods that have so often knocked out the previous diversion facility. With present construction only comparatively clean water will be allowed to flow through the canal of the South and West Field Co. At the time of a flood the diversion channel can be closed, preventing flood waters from entering the canal and titnnli; nllmvintr the flood waters to pass over the dam. 'ine diversion point on the dam is located at the south side, a grated outlet controlled by locks. I This point is the lowest on the dam so that regardless of (he size of the stream flowing the diversion can still be completed. The South and West Field Irrigation Irri-gation Company has approximately approxi-mately 733 shares of water, or enough to irrigate that same number of acres. Technical details of the construction con-struction were under the super- vision of the Iron County Soil Conservation District, headquarters headquar-ters in Cedar City. The Agricul tural Conservation Payment (ACT) is participating in the payment of the construction costs. Approximately 62 per cent of the shareholders in the irri gation company are eligible for the Federal aid on a 50 per cent basis. However, shareholders such as Cedar City Corporation, are not eligible for the Federal assistance. as-sistance. According to officials of the South and West Field, the expense ex-pense of the construction will be assessed to the shareholders over a period of years. |
