RAY KNELL Ray Knell, owner and operator of El Rey Motel in Cedar City, was elected president of the Utah ! State Motel Association at the annual association convention, held in Richfield Saturday, Nov. 20. Mr. Knell was elected president presi-dent to succeed Bentley Mitchell, Logan, who automatically becomes be-comes a member of the board of directors for the coming year. Other officers elected include Henry Millcam, Vernal; Jay T. Stringham, Salt Lake City; Richard Rich-ard Jensen, St. George; Wayne Barker, Ogden, Bryce Thornton, Springville; W. D. Jackson, Richfield, Rich-field, and Merle Bigler, Ogden, members of the board of direc-I direc-I tors. 1 no moiei operators weiu on record at the convention as deploring de-ploring the practice of moving highways unnecessarily for the apparent purpose of alleviating congested trafffic conditions. It was pointed out that such moves only temporarily relieve the congestion con-gestion because business immediately immed-iately begins to build up on the new highways. Such changes cause heavy loss of investment to established business. The operators adopted a resolution reso-lution calling for legislation which would provide for a vote of the people of the county or counties involved before such cchanges are made, and provide that when such changes become be-come necessary, the present highway high-way be maintained as a state highway and be properly signed as a business route. They further fur-ther recommended that damage to established b'usiness affected be taken into consideration in determining the cost, as in the cost of right-of-way purchases, and that proper restitution be made. The group also voted to investigate inves-tigate the possibility of issuing an advertising folder and map, to give proper information as to motel ? rcommodations throughout through-out the state. It was also agreed that officers and members of the association offer their experience and service ser-vice in advising prospective motel mo-tel owners, which would help to prevent an unprofitable investment invest-ment through overbuilding, poor location or unethical operations. It was felt that this type of advice ad-vice would tend to provide motel accommodations in inadequately served areas and prevent overcrowding over-crowding in other areas. , |
