Wednesday evening eve-ning El Rey Cafe was to meet Parowan and Desert Mound was to play Iron Mountain in one of the most important games of the season. However rain interfered and th'3 postponement w as necessary. neces-sary. Other games of the week pitted pit-ted mines teams, four in all. against town teams, three with no clashes between mines teams to affect the top four standings. 1 Iron Mountain with only one loss to its credit turned in the most impressive win of the week when i shut out Bradshaw 15 to 0. Kei'li Staheli pitched fine of the most brilliant games of the ! season for the Iron Mountain nine in posting the shut-out. Very Tew hits were allowed the Bradshaw plavers but the Mounders pounded the ball hard and scored in every frame. It took the full seven innings for the inspired Staheli crew to collect col-lect the 15 runs which would have automatically ended the game if they had come in an earlier inning. Craig Jones, pitching his first game foi El Rey Cafe, and his first game in the' Cedar City Softball Soft-ball league, lost a close battle to Utah Construction Monday evening. Considering Jones' inexperience inex-perience on the mound, he turned in an outstanding performance and will stand some close watching in the remainder of the season. Dave Gates of the Construction Con-struction crew turned in a fine evening at bat, collecting four hits in four trips to the plate. Columbia Iron Mines remained at the head of the heap by defeating de-feating Parowan in their only encounter of the week. The league leading Mines nine took the cellar burdened Farowan team l or 12 to 5 win. The Parowan Par-owan team has been handicapped handicap-ped by the loss of its regular pitcher, Clark Mitchell, in the last two games, but with Richard Rich-ard Whitney substituting they have managed to stay in the game against the stronger teams. Parowan suffered its scoorvd loss of the week to Desert Mound by the identical score, 12 to 5. boosting the Mounders wins tc six and giving the Parowan team, its eighth loss. An association meeting is being be-ing held this evening and it is. expected that a number of postponed post-poned games will be scheduled for early next week with the regularly reg-ularly smheduled games rrfb! to later dates. In the event nhe ularly scheduled games cnavrd the schedule as shown above-.iU bo followed. |
