Show Utah Parks Vins First Half Honors; Dominates Batting. Pitching, RBIs Courtesy Hans Freig Utah Tarks team of the Tony ! League in Cedar City, walked away with most of the honors in the first half of play, capturing cap-turing first place and posting men in practically all of the top spots on the statistical totem pole. The Utah Parks team won its first eight games of the season sea-son in a breeze fnr first place, but dropped from the perfect record rec-ord in its last game, losing to the Arden Dairy team for a first half record of eight wins and one loss. Utah Power .... 2 7 .222 Of the top six batters in the league, those coming to the plate no less than 30 times, the Parks here again dominated with four men taking the center section sec-tion of the averages, leaving first and sixth to onposinc teams. Clark, Const 30 19 .633 Pryor, Parks .... 36 20 .555 Jones, Farks .... 31 17 .545 Corry, Parks .... 36 19 .525 Isom, Parks 37 17 .432 Rigby, Ardens .. 31 12 .385 As for the pitching end of the games, Bevan Corry of the Utah Parks posted a perfect first half, winning four and losing none. Art Pryor of -the Parks, who pitched five games, equalled Corry Cor-ry in the win column but lost one game for a four win and one loss record. Noil Petty of the Arden Dairy nine was another four game winner the first half but he lost two games for a four win and two loss record. Young Pryor in pasting his four wins established three other pitching records for the first half. Art allowed ony 32 hits and 36 runs for the low in those two de- partments and he also posted the first strike-out record of 54. Petty Pet-ty of Arden Dairy fame in the six games that he pitched allowed al-lowed only 11 walks. Petty also had the low earned run average of five. Corry of the Parks came in for some more glory in the runs batted bat-ted in department with 19 to his credit. Three other Parks men, Pryor, Jones and Robinson were close behind with 17 runs-batted-in to their credit. In the home run column Kenneth Ken-neth Jones, another Parks team member, led the field with throe. Clark of the Construction pounded pound-ed out seven doubles and Ends-ley Ends-ley of the Construction was close behind with six. Pryor of the Parks holds the present record for triples, slamming out four in the first half. Play in the Pony League will resume again on Tuesday, July 21 following a week's layoff between be-tween halves. |
