Show Litile League All-Star Players flamed; Petty Gets Manager Post Wednesday afternoon the man-ygers, man-ygers, president and player agent ci the Cedar City Little League met in a brief session and established es-tablished an all-star Little League team from the four participating par-ticipating in the program in Cedar Ce-dar City, to participate in national na-tional tournament competition. Chosen to play on this all-star all-star team, which will get its first taste of competition on Aug. 1 at 5:30 p. m. on the local diamond dia-mond when Elko, Nev. invades the city, are the following players: play-ers: Gary Anderson, Roger Ilig-bee, Ilig-bee, Ray Prestwich and Jeff Mar-chant Mar-chant of the Rotary; Eric Gardner. Gard-ner. Richard Ilirschi, Douglas Haycock, and Ralph Stokes of the Lions; Phil Yergensen. Larry Smith and David Randall of the Kiwanis, and Neil Gentry. Dunne Jones and Randy Rosenberg of the Elks teams. Selection of the all-star team, was made in accordance with national Little League rules. All of the managers submitted a selection se-lection roster of 14 players to the player agent and th player a.cnt in turn compiled the votes and the team members v. ere chosen cho-sen on the number of votes received. re-ceived. Also in accordance with the Little League rules and regulations regula-tions the manager who has won the most games at the time of selection, which was L'lloyd Mar-chant Mar-chant of the Rf,tary team, is given gi-ven the first choice to manage the all-star team. Mr. Marchant, however, withdrew his name and appointed league president Cleo Petty as manager. Mr. Petty accepted ac-cepted the position and he will select his assisting personnel. Cedar City is fortunate in the Little League program that it has to play only one game in order In compete in a sectional tournament at Helper, Utah involving in-volving five states. If the all-star team can get past the Elko Little Lit-tle Ler.gue all-star team it will be admitted to this sectional tournament. Other teams such as those in the state of Idaho must have a state play-ofr in order to place one te;.m in the sectional meet at Helper. Incidentally, Cedar City or Elko, which ever wins the entrance berth, will meet the winner of the Idaho state playoff play-off in the first round at Helper. Represented in the five state regional play-off will be the following fol-lowing entries: One team from the four Littl? Leagues in Salt Lake City, one team from the two teams in Provo, one team from Idaho, one team from Montana, Mon-tana, one team from Wyoming, one team from the Price and Fast Crrbnn Little Leagues, one team fr"m the Helper and Sunny-side Sunny-side Little Leagues nlus either Cedar City or Elko. Only one team will advance from the sectional tournament to the western regional tournament at Santa Mcnica, Calif. However, there will be a consolation bracket brac-ket at Helper and each team entering en-tering will be assured of at least two clay's play. Dates have already been set for all of these tournaments and are as follows: Flko vs. Cedar City, Saturday, Aug. 1, 5:30 p. m. Sectional tournament at Helper. Help-er. Aug. 3, 4 and 5. Regional tournament at Santa Monica, Aug. 13, 14 and 15. |
