Show Third Ward Edges Out College For League Lead TEAM STANDINGS Third 6 0 1.000 Second 4 1 .800 College 4 1 .800 Institute 3 2 .600 Fourth 3 2 .600 Kanarra 2 4 .333 Sixth 1 4 .200 Filth 1 5 .167 First 0 5 .000 Tuesday evening at the Cedar high school gymnasium time ran out on the College Ward of the Cedar Stake M-Men basketball league and the Third Ward captured cap-tured a one point win to jump into the undisputed lead in the race. In conformance with the gym scheduling there has been a time limit set on games and with slightly more than two minutes remaining in the fourth and final fi-nal quarter the game was called with the Third Ward edging out the one point victory, 33 to 32. However, the College Ward lost the game in the long run from the free throw line. With 25 chances to score from the foul line the College team managed to sink only 10 points. The Third Ward cn the other hand hit nine for 14 and out-scored the College Col-lege team 11 to 10 in the field goal department. Don Marshall of C S U fame was the backbone of the College Ward team and with two regulars from the Third Ward out on fouls in the fourth period it looked like the College would take over until the time regulahon was put in force. El-win El-win Isom and Jack Sargent of the Thiid Ward were standouts for that team, scoring well and both playing an important part in rebound duties. Not to be left out of the picture pic-ture by any means is the Second Ward. It suffered a 37 to 29 defeat de-feat at the hands of the L D S Institute this past week but that game, with the Institute automatically auto-matically In the district meet, will not be counted in the race for admittance to the district meet. Last Friday evening the Second Ward scored its fourth victory over the First Ward. The Second Ward, however, has yet to meet the College and Sixth wards in the first half of play. The Cedar Fifth Ward came into the win column for the first time this week when it scored a victoiy over Kanarra Tuesday evening, 31 to 29 and the Sixth Ward won its initial victory over the First Ward. Other games of the week saw Kaneira take its second win of the season at the hands of the Sixth, 36 to 22, last Friday night whi'e the College drubbed the Fifth Ward. 60 to 25. Monday night the Third Ward took the measuie of the Fifth, 49 to 33. Games have been postponed during the holidays with the Second and College to start the ball rolling on Jan. 4. The first half of the race will be completed on Jan. 11. |
