Show Iron County Vater Users Assn. Names 1954 Officers Members of the Iron County Water Users Association voted by acclamation to retain Warren War-ren Bulloch as president for the corning year with D. Robinson as vice president, Grant Hunter, second vice president and Stephen Ste-phen L. Brower as secretary and treasurer. The meeting was called on uec. 17 for the purpose of electing officers and oiganizing the association asso-ciation for 1954. The following list of board members were approved to serve next year: Richard Jones, Newcastle; New-castle; L. M. Jones, Cedar City Water Board; Ray Lyman, Summit Sum-mit Irrigation and Parowan City; Gordon Moyle, Escalante Valley; Frank Williamson, Paragonah, Edgar Benson, Parowan fields. During the course of the evening eve-ning reports on the past year's activities were heard by the 28 association members in attendance. attend-ance. According to the report of the majority of the board, time during 1953 was spent in dealing deal-ing with the Newcastle project, adjudication of under -ground water In Escalante Valley and consideration of Virgin drainage water for Iron County. A considerable discussion evolved on the adjudication of water at Escalante valley. According Ac-cording to Gordon Moyle the duty ,o viae hppn lumped from 3 to 3Vi acre-feet through the board's action in two court hearings hear-ings with the Utah State Engineer. Engi-neer. It was pointed out, however, how-ever, that elsewhere in the state duty has ben placed as high as five acre-feet. Other business discussed during dur-ing the evening included the need for cooperation between Iron and Washington counties in relation to the Virgin River drain-off. Sheldon Olds, congressional congress-ional representative for Douglas K. Stringfellow, suggested that a two-county commission be established estab-lished to handle this situation. With tne possibility of this in mind the group suggested a meeting with Cong. Stringfellow for the purpose of establishing such a commission. |
