Show Increase Is Noted In Women Holding Air Ratings A marked Increase in the number num-ber of women holding pilot, instructor in-structor pilot, instructor, air-traffic control operator and other airmen ratings is indicated by the first such inventory conducted conduct-ed by the Civil Aeronautics Administration Ad-ministration in nearly four years, according to O. L. McCaughey, chief communicator, Cedar City municipal airport. The latest tally, made as of May 1, 1949, shows that there were 9,678 women pilots of whom 8,115 held private pilot certificates, certifi-cates, 1,561 held commercial ra-ings ra-ings and two had airline transport trans-port pilot ratings. A previous count, as of July 1, 1945, showed only 5.122 women holding pilot certificates, of whom 4,166 held private licenses li-censes and 956 held commercial ratings. The largest number of women pilots was to be found in California Cali-fornia with 1,154. Texas had the next largest number with 473. Other airmen ratings held by women included 1,811 air-traffic control operators, 1.221 ground instructors, 400 parachute techni- clans, 47 mechanics, 16 glider pilots, and 4 dispatchers. It is interesting to note that women hold approximately 20 per cent of all the air-traffic control operator op-erator and parachute technician certificates now on record with the CAA. |
