Show Elementary School Teachers Set Plans for American Education Veek The teachers of the Elementary School, and the Principal, Oscar J. Bulet, are planning to make the most of American Education Week, Nov. 9 to 15. During this week parents are not only asked, they are urged to visit the schools. The National Education Association Associa-tion of the United States, whose President Is Southern Utah's own Olen Snow, has made careful plans for fitting observance of this week. The general theme for the week, "The Schools are Yours," will remind re-mind you, Mr. and Mrs. American Citizen, that the schools are yours, attended by your children; paid for by your dollars; administered by the boards of education chosen by you! Each day during American Education Ed-ucation Week a new topic of vital importance to the schools and to the country will be taken up. On Sunday the topic is "Securing the Peace." The different churches have been asked to set apart some time to this theme because It means so much to the whole world at this time. On Monday the theme is "Meeting the Emergency In Education," Ed-ucation," and for Tuesday, "Building "Build-ing America's Future." For Wednesday, Wed-nesday, the topic, "Strengthening the Teaching Profession", will bring to light some rather alarming facts for instance, between 1941 and 1945, 350.000 qualified teachers left the profession. The topic chosen for Thursday is "Supporting Adequate Education." For Friday, the ways the school can serve in, "Enriching Home and Community Life" will be discussed. . The last topic and perhaps the most important, "Promoting Health and Safety" will stress the responsibility respon-sibility of the school program in health education. When one considers con-siders that in 1944, ten million boys and girls had defective vision, two million impaired hearing, and that three out of four needed dental attention, at-tention, we realize how huge the task is that the school has In putting put-ting over the health program. Nothing pays like good schools.' The United States Chamber of Commerce reports these findings; where schools are best, average incomes in-comes are greatest; where schools are best, retf.ll sales are greatest; more telephones are used; more magazines are read; and more important im-portant still, fewer men were rejected re-jected under Selective Service. Education Ed-ucation makes people good producers produc-ers and good consumers. This year the four point program of the National Congress of Parents and Teachers; School Education; Health; World Understanding, and Parent and Family Life Education, will do much to link the interests of the home and the school; promote the health program In general; de velop a world community outlook through education and Increase the happiness and security of the home. The teachers and principal erf the Cedar Elementary School are' earnestly, and sincerely striving to Improve the schools, to help each' child to do his best, to be happy and to accomplish much good.
