A Message to America When the pioneers crossed the Continental Divide and worked their way down what is now known as the Colorado River, they came quite suddenly into the Grand Valley and onto the Colorado Plateau. Little did they realize the great potentialities that were here, even though they envisioned the agricultural and livestock possibilities and, through much hard work, brought their dreams and ideals into reality, , Agriculture has become a great and ever-growing industry on the Colorado Plateau- We are positive it will continue its rapid growth once water for Irrigation is made available through adjudication and allotments of priorities by the Courts. In reviewing the recent history of the great Colorado Plateau one is able to see each step of its growth through the uranium boom days of the late 1040s and early 1950s. Since then the entire area has benefited from uranium mining, milling and related operations. Uranium has been the chief contributor to the present development of the entire Plateau. And that brings us to the present and the future . . . Today we are enjoying a prosperity never before known and we are contributing to the welfare of all the world. . . . Tomorrow is another era, another story, and the secrets it holds now must become today's plans, plans which when projected into the future will become reality. The energy potentials of the Colorado Plateau stagger the imagination, seem to many to be completey unrealistic. But count our energy blessings and the picture changes from one of questionable character to one of great possibility. Our natural resources, waiting only for development, challenge the initiative of ambitious men and women of integrity. There is absolutely nothing to indicate that. American Ingenuity cannot or will not meet the problem presented by a 19C2 deadline on the uranium purchasing program of the government: there is nothing to point to lethargy in development of our oil anrf gas rcsouices, now lying dormant beneath the earth's surface; there is nothing to show we will abandon our shale oil potentials; there is nothing to. indicate to us that our great water power resources, our billions of tons of coal reserves, will be left to some distant future generation to develop. That there has been so little development of these resources until now has been because of a serious lack of promotion. No one can be blamed for what has passed but it will be the fault of every man and woman on the Colorado Plateau if the lack Is permitted to continue. The first step forward in development of any Industry or district is a job of public relations, of telling all segments of the American populace about your product and your potentials, and then fostering a sound developmental program. But one single group or industry cannot carry on such a big job alone, for then only one of the industrial groups would be represented. Rather, we propose that leaders in uranium, oil and gas, coal, shale oil, water, farming, ranching, and all the others affected by such a public relations and development program, sit down at a conference tabe and map plans for setting into motion plans which will make reality of today's dreams. We do not hesitate to declare that industrial and population growth would be speeded up a hundredfold by proper ' planning, That is why we advocate much a plan. The future, of the Colorado Plateau lies in the hands of the planners, the industrialists, the business leaders, the farmers and the stockgrowers, the man on the street, the housewife and, yes, the boy and girl in school today. Let them come forward with their suggestions and recommendations. Let them make known their own desires and wishes, their own thoughts. Let us all prosper together and let us build .or our sons and daughters the Energy Empire that lies, now at our feet. Particularly it is the wish of Fargo to aid in the development of our natural resources.. We have competent geologic engineering and mining facilities at our disposal. May we put them at your service? The Energy Empire of the Colorado Plateau is waiting only for you and for me to get together. How about UT ." FARGO URANIUM & OIL CO. Grand Junction Colo. |
