Show Cradle lo Skis? Steamboat Springs children are learning to ski almost as soon as they learn to walk. And when they reach the first grade they are even graded on their ability to ski. Under the guidance of Internationally-known skiing ace Gordon Wren, youngsters of all ages practice on the slopes every afternoon during "snow" months. The ski school Is so popular that over 200 kids attend and some of the ciders have to help Mr, Wren with the beginners. The older students are by no means novices. Among them is 18-year-old Hud Werner, who came home from Norway last , year with the first place ribbon for the Ilolmenkollen downhill race. Of the 16 member team picked to attend the international ski I meet In Sweden last year, five . were students from Steamboat Springs' ski school. I By four o'clock-every afternoon during the season, llowelsen Hill I near town is literally covered with young skiers. Lights are often turned on the hill In the evening to accomodate the youngsters. |
