Show Uranium Fever Hits Oregon Residents of Northeastern Oregon today were looking for an epidemle of "uranium fever" to break out following filing of 20 claims in Enterprise by Major Norrls Poulson of Los Angeles and six associates. Poulson said at the time, that he and his party filed claim on the land in remote Imnaha country on Baker-Wallowa county line because they believe the area contains uranium deposits in amounts to make mining the ore worthwhile. Poulson, a former resident of Baker County, and his party arrived by plane last week and Immediately left for the mountainous country in the Eagle Cap wilderness area where Frye Herbert, Poulson'g aidejiad previously seen a geiger counter "go wild." The party Included Sam Kramer, wealthy Southern California oilman; Tom Drake, an army officer and surveyor; Noah Botwin, restaurant operator; Bill Reddick, a Baker fireman who is a nephew ot Herbert, and Vivian Kennedy, Pondosa packer and guide. The claims filed by Poulson and his associates lie along the Imnaha River Just over the Baker County line in Wallowa county. Entry to the area ls by way of Cornucopia over the summit ot Simmong mountain. |
