Show Groups Join In Nuclear Studies A two-year study of the peacetime uses of atomic energy is underway by two private organlza-tions, the National Planning Association and Resources for tha Future, Inc., supported by tha Ford Foundation. Primary purpose of the study by the National Planning Assn., is to determine the economic implications of electric energy from nuclear reactors. The study, ac-cording to the Association, will deal with the particular needs and potential developments during the next five to twenty years In the United States. The NPA study will concentrate on five major topics the national Interest, the Interests of U. S. regions, Industry's interests, government-business techniques, and international needs and problems. NPA said that it will consider such questions as the role of nuclear fuels in relation to conventional sources of energy, foreseeable demands for electrical energy from all sources over the next twenty years, effect of nuclear power upon power needs of the various regions of the U. S., Industrial uses of nuclear power and atomic energy, roles of the government and business in the development of atomic power, and the potential economic effects of nuclear power abroad. The National Planning Association work is being financed through a grant of $200,000 from Resources for the Future. |
