Show Attracts Tourists Surrounding Monticello are many cenic attractions which each year draw thousands of tourists to the southeastern Utah district. There are four national monuments or parks within 75 miles of Monticello. The Natural Bridges National Monument U approximately 75 miles southwest of Monticello, and contains the three largest natural bridges in the world. The first een from the highway is the Edwin, smallest of the three, spanning Armstrong Canon, and is 200 feet long. The top, accessible to climbers, is 100 feet high, and the bridge is composed of soft salmon pink rock with horizontal streaks f Vermillion. The Augusta Bridge, largest of the three, is a deeper red and Indian symbols are carved on Its aides. It arches 205 feet above the canon floor and is 186 feet long. Last of the bridges Is the Car-1 ellna, beautifully proportioned and gracefully spanning the 261 foot canon, 227 feet above its floor. The Hopl Indian name of the bridge Is "Sipau," which translated freely means "gateway through which the souls of men come and return." |
