The basic program calls for a girl to stay with the village for 12 to 18 Service Selection Committee Mr. Bingham, believing in the program and wanting to help, wrote to the Social Service Leave program sponsored by Xerox Corp. to request time off to help set up the clinic. Criteria used for the selection committee of five includes one former one holdover committee n person, representatives of a of employees, men, women and minorities holding different levels of jobs within the corporation, and at least one person who is a healthy skeptic, Mr. Bingham said. Examples of Leave As example of the type of leave approved, iiieie is a senior marketing executive in South Bend, Ind., who is assisting in a program for retarded children; a computer scientist in Palo Alto, Calif., who is setting up computer facilities for youngsters; and a territory marketing representative in Philadelphia, Pa. who is working to help high school dropouts succeed in GED (test of educational development equal to high school degree) preparation classes. Mr. Bingham added that employees on leave are paid their regular salaries and can return to their jobs at the end of their social service leave. We are required to send in monthly progress reports. These are then sent to our Xerox managers, the agency for whom we are working, and to other program participants, he said, adding that the other leave-takeact as a support group. Working in a social service agency is a different experience from working in a structured company such as Xerox, he said. Sometimes its useful to have contact with others in the same situation. Put to Good Use My practical business experience is being put to good use. For instance, I have aided with fund raising, with setting up a smoothly running office and even with getting ordinary things such as office furniture. One of the pieces of furniture is his own roll-to- p desk, "But that goes home with me, too, he added. Mr. Bingham said that other large corporations have similar programs. At Xerox, the Social Service Leave is part of the social responsibility program. The feeling is that the corporation gets back a better employee, and the employee has gained satisfaction of doing something that matters to society without giving up his or her job or family leave-take- schools, have a summer job, receive counseling and be encouraged to be part of the village community. "One of the concepts developed by the board of directors of Utah Girls Village is the Comprehensive Sexual Abuse Treatment and Prevention Clinic, Mr. Bingham said. ocpaiabc Fiuiaa iiiag He added that the clinic, under the direction of board nember and special clinic program director, Marian Smith, will be separate from the village concept. He stressed that the only connection between the two is the fact that the Utah Girls Village board of directors initiated the clinic idea. My job is to help set up the offices and business management part of this clinic, he said. In the past year, the clinic has added eight therapists to the staff to help its 300 clients, making office changes necessary. The clinic serves girls and boys, children and adolescents who are victims of sexual abuse. Therapists also are available for adults who were molested as children, perpetrators, spouses, siblings and others.
