An oil, Boy With,a Rooster, by Giovanni Battista Piazzetta (Italian, ). The work is a bequest of Harry F. Cook. An oil, The Good Samaritan, by a French mannerist painter, possibly Charles-Alphons- e Dufresnoy 1683-1754- (1611-1668- ). An oil, Portrait of a Lady, attributed to Francois Clouet (French, ca. A bequest of Mr. Cook. An oil portrait by Jose Apancio of Jean y Inglada (Span'sh, Louis Reynier, a prominent general who served under Napoleon. Inglada was a student of Jacques Louis David. The portrait at hand was painted in 1805-0- 6 and is a gift of the Marriner 1522-1572- ). 1793-183- 8) S. Eccles Foundation. Cook Bequest Mr. Cook's bequest also includes three European oils from the 19th century. They are: a genre painting by Hugo Salmson of two peasant children taking their lunch in the country; a humorous depiction by Cesar Detti of an 18th century French court interior, a romantic English countryside by Frederick Watts. Additions to the American collection include an oil landscape, Along the Hudson, 1852," by Thomas Doughalso a gift of the Marty riner S. Eccles Foundation. The museum has added to its holdings of primitive art a collection of African objects, including Kuba ceremonial knives, Ubangi spears of iron and wood, ceremonial masks from Chad and the Ivory Coast, and woven grass (or raffia cloth) used by village chiefs of Kenya. The collection is the gift of Owen D. Mort. Gift to Endowment Recent gifts to the museums endowment for acquisitions include $250,000 from Helene Druke Shaw. Some time ago Mrs. Shaw gave the museum an oil painting, A Music Party, by Flemish artist Jan and the museums newly re- (1793-1856- ), Ver-kolj- Down ANNOUNCES THE 4th ANNUAL Ascensia SALE! of exhibitions beginning next fall and continuing through the spring of 1985. modeled gallery devoted to Netherlandish painting will be dedicated to her Sunday. The space was formerly known as Gallery 11 and housed French 19th century art. Mr. Sanguinetti anticipates further growth this year in the museums endowment for acquisitions. We expect to announce two more gifts which will bring the contributions for endowment this year to $1 million. The total endowment is actually considerably larger than that. We expect by the end of next year (1985) to have an endowment of about $3 million for acquisitions. The idea is, of course, to insure that the collection will continue to grow in the years to come. The growth of the museums collections since the present facility opened on the University of Utah campus in 1970 has caused the institution to focus more of its attention on its own objects and less on visiting exhibitions. That will be even more the case in 1985-8when Mr. Sanhis and guinetti colleagues plan to present a Year of the Museum which will feature exhibits of the museums collections almost exclusivel- Among them are three visiting exhibitions of particular note. The first is the Frederick R. Weis-ma- n Foundation Collection of Contemporary Art, to be presented at the 11. Largest Acquisition (On Jan. 31, Mr. Weismans foun- dation made a grant to the new Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles to acquire 80 major paintings from the collection of Count Giuseppe Panza. The acquisition of these works represents both the largest single purchase of War II art and the largest sin gle grant for such an acquisition to an American museum.) The second exhibit will be the Collection of Currier and Ives Lithographs, to be presented Nov. 6. The 105 prints on the subject of American Expansion, Politics and Political Humor is taken from one of the finest and most extensive collections of Currier and Ives prints yet assembled. The third show will be the first traveling exhibition of works by sculptor Henry Moore ever to tour the United States. It will be presented in Salt Lake City March 12. The exhibition, organized by the Columbus (Ohio) Museum of Art and sponsored by SOHIO, parent corporation of Kennecott Copper, will feature 100 works spanning the English career. It will conmasters centrate on Moores most powerful recurring subject, the reclining Year of the Museum parts that have been seen rarely have been added to substantially in recent years. In the meantime, however, the museum is preparing for a busy schedule 1 "m.. ufff' - only until July 31st and is subject to stock on hand. n. We would like in that year to show only our own things in a whole series of exhibitions which will showcase our collections in ways that have never been seen before, Mr. Sanguinetti says. Parts of the collections have never been seen by the public. Other 4 A' But Hurry!!
