An assistant to Huntsman did say that the industrialist's concern was nothing new and that Huntsman simply wishes to see a balanced picture of the Olympic situation portrayed in the media I - Reaction to Huntsman's statements in the Tribune from the Salt Lake Olympic Bid Committee (SLOBC) were conciliatory. According to the Tribune, Tom Welch, president of the SLOBC, said the committee had already addressed Huntsman's concerns and that he remained confident of the benefits of an Olympic Games in Utah. ; Park City mayor Brad Olch, reacted to Huntsman's comments in much the same way. "It's an interesting statement. Jon has a point At this point, maybe we don't need the economic development" the Olympics would bring. Olch added that he shared Huntsman's concerns that the media had painted an all-positive picture of what hosting the Olympics entailed. "I'll say that as well. It's a real challenge. But we'll have a long horizon leading up to the Games to plan how to do it." The mayor also stated that even without the Olympics, Utah and Park City are moving into the future. "Things are happening one way or the other." Kris Severson and Matt Terwillegar were the coaches on the trip. The focus of the trip was to allow the young athletes to gain experience on plastic jumping surfaces. They trained and competed at the Calgary Olympic Park on the K 15-meter, the K38-meter K38-meter and the K65 -meter jumps. The purpose of the trip was to give the athletes some continuity to their training. With no plastic-coated plastic-coated jumps for the junior jumpers at Bear Hollow, the athletes are forced to endure a nine-month break in the season. Summer training helps to carry over what was learned on snow into the following winter season. The National Sports Foundation is currently fundraising to have plastic surfaces installed on the K18 and K38 jumping hills at the Utah Winter Sports Park. Once complete, year-round jumping and training at the park will be possible for all ages and abilities. I couldn't take it" After a trip south to a tournament in Hurricane, at which the Miners took sixth, Park City faced non-region foe Judge Memorial after press time on Tuesday, Sept. 13. In Hurricane, Park City's play was marked by a continuation of Thursday's ugly trend. But in a third game loss to Moapa of Nevada, the Miners began to "pick it up" according to Laulhere. "We started having fun and we played better." The play improved from there, and despite losses to 4A Spanish Fork and another to Moapa (which saw one game go to 19-17), Laulhere said things were looking better. The team certainly hopes so as the Miners will resume their Region X schedule on Thursday, Sept 15 at home with a match against the Lehi Pioneers, that's as close to must-win as it gets. They'll then participate in the South Summit Tournament in Kamas Sept 16-17. "We've got a lot of work to do up here," said Laulhere, pointing to his head. by LUKE SMITH Record staff writer "Just put 'ugly' across the top," said Miner volleyball coach Marc Laulhere, after the team dropped its opening Region X match to the visiting Union Cougars, 15-2, 15-7. "I don't know who was on the court, but it wasn't us." Indeed, the Miners look bewildered on the floor, with several miscommunications at times, even no communications giving the Cougars easy points throughout the short, two-game match. The Miners even ran into each other on occasion in attempts to set up for an attack. All of which is reflected in some of the numbers. Besides the most telling numbers, the scores, Park City racked up five passing errors, three hitting errors, three serving errors and two free-ball errors IN THE FIRST GAME ALONE. In the second game the numbers were much the same although the Miners had only four passing errors because, according to Laulhere, "I . Hou' . - AFF. WW vvvvvvwvw UFnHinv .
