Show .The Park Record Section C Thursday, September 15, 1994 D Page C3 Deer Valley hosts final by ROBERT TRUELSEN Record guest writer I The Deer Valley Rally was held over the Labor Day weekend and -after the final event, champions of the Cannondale Cup Fat Tire Series were crowned in the pro and expert categories. Martin Stenger jumped clear of a lead group of four riders on the first of three laps on the upper Deer Valley course and stayed in front for the victory. Stenger's main competition came from senior expert Eric Jones who initiated the surge that cleared Stenger. Jones came to within 20 seconds of Stenger on the final climb, but Stenger added to his lead on the fast, single-track descents. Stenger was followed by Coloradoan Oliver Starr and Utah rider Dave Harrison. Park City's Dan Graves followed in fourth. Jones went on to win the senior expert race ahead of Chris Fox and Allen Benson. Colorado rider Leah Lynch won the pro women's event over Park City racers Cyndi Schwandt, who is preparing for her fourth World Championship appearance (to be held in Vail, Colo, this weekend) and Teresa Eggertsen. Roxanne Toly of the Park City Cycling Club earned a season-long victory in the women's expert class. Tom Noaker won the expert veteran men's race, passing World's team member Mark Smedley on the final lap of the race. Aaron Liddell edged Gene Hilton for the win in the expert junior men's race. Graves and Schwandt claimed the overall men's and women's pro series titles. Graves put together a string of late-season wins and a fourth-place finish at Deer Valley to overtake Dave Woods, the early-season early-season leader. Schwandt used her consistency to claim the women's title. Her second-place finish at Deer Valley only solidified her hold on the women's title. Fox used his second place to ensure his Cannondale Cup Fat Tire Series overall title. Jones finished a close second. Toly was the overall women's expert champion, edging out Anita Merbach. Hilton was the overall expert junior champ with John Osguthorpe coming in second. Joe Rimensberger was the overall expert veteran champion with Ron FOUR LAKES VILLAGE AT PARK MEADOWS EAGLE RIDGE C AT Innovative homes in a residential community with a beautiful mountain setting! 7 Models from $188,000 COME SEE OUR NEW MODEL JfWyers W Lindley finishing second. After losing to Lucas in the winners' bracket by a score of 13-6, Burgie's emerged from the losers' bracket for the rematch against Lucas by beating The Cozy 13-1 1. In the first game of the finals, Burgie's got revenge by taking the match 9-6. During the second game however, a game whose outcome would decide the playoff champion, a brief rain shower forced the cancellation of the game, in which Burgie's held a commanding lead, before the fifth inning. Rules stipulate replaying such a game in its entirety, which, due to the brevity of the rainstorm, the Burgie's team was reportedly unwilling to do. As a result, Lucas Western was declared the winner by a forfeit. Exceptional condominiums surrounded by the lakes and fairways of the Park Meadows Golf Course! COLD FACTS As we all know, It is Indeed possible to get too much of a good thing, and that includes ice therapy. While the application of ice to sprains and strains is effective in reducing swelling and inflammation, overusing cold therapy can do more harm than good. Ice should only be applied to an injured area for 1 5 to 20 minutes at a time, after which the skin's temperature should be allowed to return to normal before reidng. Ice that is applied for too long can cause numbness, muscle weakness, and nerve damage that can take up to six months to heal completely. It should also be noted that ice should be wrapped in a towel or cloth and never applied directly to the skin. f We Do It All Stone Tile Brick Fireplaces Save Money by letting us do the entire job.
