Show The Park Record D Section B Thursday September 15, 1994DPageB13 SSEEBS3 Phantom of the Opera The Desert Star Playhouse is once again presenting Phantom of the Opera, a musical-comedy adapted for the classic tale written by Gaston Leroux, Sept. 15 through Nov. 12. 'The Paris Opera House, at the turn of the century, is the setting for this classic tale set to music by the Desert Star Players. It is the story of an elusive phantom who is obsessed with the beautifully irinocent Christine. "I am the Angel of Music! You can never leave me Christine. They drove me to hide in darkness, but now you, Christine, are my light. You must stay with me forever!" jThe Phantom roams the darkness of the night causing those who defy him to meet with unfortunate accidents. When Madame Carlotta mysteriously loses her voice, Christine is thrust into the spotlight, in the title role, Mr. Rogers In the upcoming PBS prime time special, Fred Rogers' Heroes: Who' s Helping America's Children, Fred Rogers ventures beyond his neighborhood to profile four extraordinary true-to-life heroes in communities around the country. The program will be broadcast on KBYU-TV, Utah's Family Station, Monday, Sept. 19 at 9 p.m. Produced especially for adults, this one-hour program provides viewers with an upbeat, inspiring message of empowerment and hope in a world where violence and alienation have led to deepening discouragement. The stories of these four dynamic people are convincing evidence that each of us can make Affair to benefit Travelers The Eighth Annual Great Salt Lake Chili Affair has been scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 28, at the Utah State Fairpark Grand Building. The public is invited to join honorary co-chairs, co-chairs, Mayor Dccdee Corradini and Jon M. Huntsman, Jr., for an evening of gourmet chili, silent auction, gift carts, and music. Tickets are available for $30 each and can be purchased through Travelers Aid Society. Proceeds from the event provide opportunities for men, women, and families with children to take steps out of homelessness and make the transition to independent living. In the title role of the Phantom is Bret Wheadon, well known in Utah for his work at Lagoon and Weber State University. All productions at the Desert Star are rip-roaring, foot-stomping fun and include accompanying olio acts. This production's olio will be set to a "Lullabye of Broadway" theme featuring many of the Great White Way's remembered songs. Phantom of the Opera will run Monday and Thursday at 7 p.m., Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. and America's in public housing on the south side of Chicago. Today, in one of Chicago's toughest ' neighborhoods, he leads a program which trains grade school children in mediation and conflict resolution in five area schools. And in the small community of Brewster, N.Y., Dr. Sam Ross is the founder and director of Green Chimneys, a working farm where troubled youth find healing and solace in their interaction with animals domestic and wild.
