Show The Park Record D Section B Thursday, September 15, 1994 0 Page B9 Folk Alliance to present Rosalie Sorrels Don't Put An Aftermarket Windshield In Your Ford Concert News On Friday, Sept. 16 at the Park City Library & Education Auditorium in Park City, The Wasatch Mountain Folk Alliance will present folk singer Rosalie Sorrels in concert. To country singer Nanci Griffith, who wrote a song about her, folk singer and storyteller Rosalie Sorrels is "the salt of the earth." To folk singer Bruce "Utah" Phillips, Sorrels is "a high-velocity tornado who wrote the book on what to do if you're a woman over 40 and on the road." Other fans speak glowingly of her pure but lived-in voice, her emotional honesty, her keen observations on the human condition. Sorrels, a performer since the 1960s and something of a living legend in folk music circles, has a slightly different perspective on her appeal. "I think that a lot of people, especially women, see me as someone who stopped what she was doing, said, 'I'm not going to take this anymore,' and changed her life," she says. Over the years, Sorrels has recorded 17 albums of traditional and contemporary stories and songs. Many of the albums have been unavailable for years, but four Always a Lady, Traveling Lady Rides Again, Moments of Happiness and Then Came the Children will be reissued this fall by Green Linnet Records. Green Linnet also recently released two new Sorrels recordings, Be Careful, There's a Baby in the House and Report from Grimes Creek, which takes its title from the creek that runs by Sorrels' rustic cabin in her beloved Boise, Id. countryside. Sorrels' father built the cabin years ago on land that has been in the family for several generations. "It's an absolutely beautiful place," says Sorrels of her home, which she shares with her dog and an occasional visiting friend. Tickets for the concert are available at King Kong Video in Park City and at The Record Collector, 1 1 15 East 2100 South, Sugarhouse. V 1 Rosalie Sorrels For more information, call (801) 581-1 182.
