Show 'Wage and Tax Statements' should be given by Jan. 31 you use the right information from those statements on your tax return for both the amount of income you earned and the amount of taxes withheld from your wages in 1990. Otherwise, the IRS says you might find yourself overpaying or underpaying under-paying your taxes. If the printing on your W-2 is hard to read, check the figures against the last pay statement you received from your employer. If you do not receive your W-2 by Feb. 15, contact the IRS for assistance by calling toll-free 1-800-829-1040. If you do not receive your Form W-2, "Wage and Tax Statement," from your employer by Jan. 31, contact your employer and be sure he or she has your correct mailing address. The Internal Revenue Service says the W-2 tax information is necessary to file federal and state tax returns. Generally, employers are required to make their employees W-2 statement, which lists wages earned and taxes withheld, available by Jan. 31. If you worked for more than one employer in 1990, you need to be particularly careful that you file a copy of each of your W-2 forms that employers will provide to you, with your federal tax returns.
