Oscarson broke the state record for saves against the Bengals. Brighton shot 106 times on goal; Oscarson blocked a mind-boggling mind-boggling 90 of those shots, set ting the new state record for saves Thursday at the Cottonwood Cotton-wood Ice Arena. To put that into perspective, Oscarson blocked a shot approximately approx-imately every 20 seconds in Viewmont's game against Brighton. On the other hand, Viewmont could not muster a single shot on goal against Brighton. The Bengals completely shut down Viking scoring ace Lester Lemmon en route to their 9th consecutive victory. Brighton is 9-0 on the season; Viewmont slips to 5-4 and is tied with Davis for fifth place a tie which, incidentally, will not last past Wednesday as the Darts and Vikes face off at the Bountiful Ice Arena. In the words of Viewmont coach Dale Williams, the match will be a duel of the goalies which both teams think they can win. For the Darts, the key to a win over the Vikes is relatively simple stop Lester Lemmon. At the same time, the Vikes will have to find a way to beat the Davis defense spearheaded by goalie Matt Jamieson, who allowed only 8 goals against Brighton earlier in the season. Jamieson earned 65 saves against the Bengals and 50 against second place Murray last week. "The number one thing we'll have to do," said Williams, "is shoot on net When we can do that, we always win. "I think we can beat Davis. It should be a great game because of the two great goalies. It will be a battle of the goalies. "They'll have to stop Lemmon to win, but I don't think they have the manpower to doit." Davis coach Craig Walker also feels confident about his team's chances against Viewmont View-mont "We're confident that we can overcome Viewmont if we can keep Lemmon under control. We'll try to shake him up," said Walker. The Davis, Viewmont hockey grudge match is slated to begin Wednesday at 9:15 p.m. |
