Show 'January Thaw winners named L WOODS CROSS Towne and Country Racquet Club finished its first American Amateur Racquetball Association-sanctioned tournament tour-nament in six years Saturday with finals competition commencing at 2 p.m. In the men's open bracket, Steve Black defeated Towne and Country Coun-try professional Rick Strout for first place honors. With the loss, Strout finished second. The men's open consolation bracket tide was awarded to John Yorkey after defeating Grant Needham. Men's A level competition awarded its first prize medal to Boun-ti Boun-ti ful's Hal LaBellc after LaBelle defeated Needham in the Men's A finals. Third place went to Marianne Walsh. Consolation honors in the Men's A bracket went to Craig Wandling, who defeated Boun-tiful's Boun-tiful's Terry Orchard for the title. In Men's B competition, Davie Brown beat Gary Gatherum of Bountiful for first place. Scott Preston finished third behind Gatherum. I In the Men's B consolation bracket, Jim Robertson defeated Nielson Barlow of Bountiful to claim the title. Jim Thompson claimed the Men's C division title defeating Boun-tiful's Boun-tiful's Rick LaBelle. Steve Clark followed LaBelle, winning third place honors. The Men's C consolation bracket went to Kevin McLoud of Bountiful Boun-tiful who defeated Barney Christiansen. Men's D competition was the only level play held on a round robin basis. John Coppin ended the tournament with the most D level wins and a first place finish over Sean Widauf of Logan, In Women's C and D combined play, (also played on a round robbin basis) Joanne Davenport took first place honors, followed by Cindy Jones. Open Women's A action found tournament organizer and Bountiful Boun-tiful resident Sue Stewart in first place. Jamie Johnston claimed second se-cond behind Stewart. In the 35-40 division, Rick Strout defeated Tim Storey for first place. Steve Coray followed in third. Round robin honors in the 30 and older division went to John Yorkey, first, and Michael Schaefer, who finished second. Men's action in the 40-45 division found Hal LaBelle winning round robin competition, and Tom Nystrom claiming second I |
