Woods Cross picked up right where they left off last season dominating the Panthers. The Cats actually scored five goals, unfortunately unfor-tunately one was in the wrong net. "I thought we came out a little nervous this being our first game and all," said Wildcat coach Tom Angelos. "But in the end we did what we needed to do." The Wildcats were greeted by a large crowd which came out to cheer their team to victory under the lights of Curtis Field in the late night contest. Those fans were just settling into their seats when Troy Stones scored in the opening minutes on a beautiful break-away oal. Just moments later the Cats were at it again as Justin Kirkham lobbed a beautiful pass over the defense to the waiting foot of Mike Rigby whose soft shot made it 2-0. Troy Stones again found the net for the Cats to push the lead to 3-0, and it appeared as if the route was on. Unfortunately the careless play of Woods Cross would let the Panthers Pan-thers back into the game. With the Cats controlling the ball near their own goal, a pass was lofted high in the air. An apparent misunderstanding as to whether the Woods Cross goalkeeper had called for the ball accounted for one of the Wildcats heading the ball into their own goal. The Cats appeared frustrated by their own mistake and quickly followed it with another. A pushing foul within the goal box resulted in a direct penalty kick for the Panthers. Pan-thers. The kick was converted and West was quickly back in the match 3-2 as the whistle sounded ending the first half of play. The Wildcats were able to score quickly in the second half as Danny Morris was able to head the ball just past the outstretched hands of the West goalkeeper. The goal put Woods Cross comfortably com-fortably ahead once again at 4-2 who then relief on their superior defense to shut down the Panthers the rest of the game.
