Show 16 CLIPPER Friday, March 27, 1992 Youth council part of YCCII New members of the youth city councils throughout Davis County recently took part in Utah State University's Univer-sity's ninth annual Youth City Council Leadership Institute. In-stitute. West Bountiful's youth city council mayor Kristi Bangerter reported the members' experiences at the Tuesday evening meeting of the official city council. The youth council all agreed that the only thing wrong with the experience was that it was too short. More than 380 youth city council members and their advisors from throughout Utah travelled to USU to take part in the event which aids young people in understanding understan-ding city government, parliamentary procedure, leadership leader-ship skills and discussing various project ideas. West Bountiful's youth council members are: Benji McAdams, junior advisor, police; Lindsay Anderson, secretary, emergency preparedness; Kristi Bangerter, mayor, public relations; Jennifer Dawson, mayor pro tern, parks and recreation; Jeff Haslam, garbage and recycling, and Joe Heywood, streets. Other council members are: Danny Hopkinson, photography, pho-tography, police; Mariah Johnson, historian and streets; - Jennifer Jones, newsletter, garbage and recycling; Amy Kenison, building and grounds; Katie Larson, schools and education; Andy McAdams, schools and education; Ryan Stock, water, buildings and grounds; April White, parks and recreation. Advisor and City Councilwoman Vicki Stock said she hopes the youth council will be able to work with the senior council this year in achieving some goals. "The kids really want to make a difference. This is all new and we're going to learn a lot, but we're hoping we can work with the council members in their areas of responsibility," Stock explained. The youth council will take note of and report such items as potholes they see in streets and dark streets, volunteer when needed in the parks and recreation department and learn about how the police work and what they do in relation to children. It will also have responsibility as part of the city's emergency preparedness plan such as directing traffic or piling sandbags. Councils also hold fund-raisers to earn their way to educational functions. "They do a lot of fun things, really help the city out a lot, and at the same time learn youth service," Stock said. Centerville youth city council members are: Allison Hancey, mayor; Sydney Monson, mayor pro tern; Trudy Perkins, recorder; Blake Beecher, police chief; Jennifer Hales, city administrator; Michelle Tadje, parks and cemetery; Melanie Roylance, Sunshine committee chair; Jill Jones, historian; Heidi Monson, treasurer, Tricia Kjar, newspaper. |
