Show Weed ordinance could force clean up CEDAR CITY "Basically, if you have a vacant lot and the weeds on the lot are very high, and there is garbage and junk piled on the property, that mess is the responsibility of the property owner, and if it's not cleaned up, the property owner stands the chance of being fined," explained Beautification Committee Com-mittee Chairman Guil Funston about Cedar City's weed abatement ordinance. The Cedar City weed abatement ordinance is to encourage, by law, property owners to keep their lots clean of weeds, garbage, and unsightly refuse. The ordinance gives the fire marshall or his deputy the right to inspect various lots in the City, and, if they are found to be unsightly during the weed season, then they can issue a notice that the lot must be cleaned up in 10 days. If the owner or occupant of the property doesn't clean up the lot, then the City could clean it up and fine the owner for it. "Everyone who has a vacant property should make an effort to clean their lots up. If they aren't then they might be fined," said Funston. |
