Show Cedar's beautification week planned CEDAR CITY - Cedar City is scheduled to receive a facelift in the very near future, and the entire town is encouraged to get in and help. To be more exact, the Cedar City Beautification Week and Community Spring Clean is planned for the week of May 10 through the 15. According to Cedar City Beautification Committee Guil Funston, the Committee has planned clean-up for Cedar City. He says that everyone is invited to get out and clean-up their yards, homes, schools, churches and businesses as part of the week's activities. As part of Beautification Week, a slogan contest is being organized by the Committee. Slogans should be concerned con-cerned with Beautification Week, and with getting people to take pride in the City and how it looks. Slogans can be submitted by mail to Beautification Slogan, Cedar City Corporataion, Cedar City, Utah 84720, and must be in no later than May 15. The winner will receive $50 for the best slogan, and will be announced the following Monday. Throughout the week information booths are planned to be located in various parts of the City to provide L City. The day is to be called the Cedar City School's Clean-up Day, and all the students will be working to clean-up around the school grounds. The Committee wants the students in Cedar's schools to realize exactly how much they can do to make Cedar City a cleaner place for all those who live here, said Funston. On Thursday, the Southern Utah State College clean-up and awareness day is scheduled. The main project of the week will take place on Friday when groundbreaking ground-breaking for the downtown entrance to Cedar City, as part of the Cedar City redevelopment project, will take place. The gateway project will be to make Cedar City look more appealing to visitors, and is to be located in front of the post office. The Committee would like time, labor ' and money donated to assist in the gateway project. Saturday is the Community Spring Clean day. Cedar City residents are encouraged to pile their small refuse in front of their homes by 12 noon because the city will be coming around street-by-street collecting and hauling off the unwanted refuse. residents free information on how to properly take care of lawns and plants, or other tidbits of information about such things as weed abatement and advice on tree trimming. Funston explained that the Week is still being organized, but that by the time May 10 rolls around, "the Cedar City clean up campaign will be ready." Beautification Week events are planned as follows The week's kick-off will be Monday morning at 9 a.m. in front of the City offices. At that time a proclamation concerning the week will be read and the first tree will be planted in front of the City offices as part of the Main Street tree project. Funston explained that trees are to be planted along Cedar's Main Street, and that throughout the week holes will be cut along Main Street sidewalks, and trees will be planted. He also explained that all the monies for Beautification Week and for the various projects have been donated by persons in the community, and that the Committee wants to stress that the projects will not be any additional burden on taxpayers.
