Show SUSC student selected to represent Utah CEDAR CITY - A Southern Utah State College student" will represent Utah in Mr. Future Business Teacher Competition July 5-8 at the National Phi Beta Lambda Leadership Conference in Indianapolis, In-dianapolis, Ind. Cal D. Huber, a senior at SUSC majoring in business education, won first place honors in the annual contest at the State Phi Beta Lambda Convention conducted recently at Weber State College. Huber, the son of Darrell and Mary Lou Huber, La Point, Uintah County, also won first place in Who's Who in PBL, winning $30" from i the PBL Alumni Association. The Mr, Future Business Teacher Award carried a $50 cash award from the Utah Business Educators' Association. The 1981-82 State PBL Vice-President, Huber has been active in all areas of the national business club according to Doris Williamson, Chi Alpha Advisor. The 1975 graduate of Uintah High School is married to the former Susan Lemon; they are the parents of an infant son, Colby. ''SUSC was represented at the state conference by 11 students," Williamson, associate professor of business, said. "Between them, they came away with 22 contest placings, seven honorable men tions, and a slot in the state PBL organization." Jeffrey D. Maxwell, Chi Alpha President this year, is the newly elected treasurer of the statewide state-wide PBL organization for 1982-83. Maxwell, a sophomore accounting major, is a member of the ASSUSC Senate, representing business students in student government. The 1977 Cedar High School graduate is the son of Douglas and Sandra Maxwell, Cedar City. Maxwell placed fifth in Data Processing I last year at the National PBL Convention in Chicago. Another first " place winner in state competition com-petition was Annette "Kerr, daughter of Dee and Joan Chilinski, West Jordan, in Communicating Com-municating Free Enterprise. En-terprise. The senior business administration major also placed fifth with 1981-82 SUSC Student Body President Shelly Benson in Executive Decision Making and received an honorable mention in Business Administration. Also winning first place were Ron Bliss and John Reidhead in Executive Decision Making. Both Bliss and Reidhead are 1978 graduates of Spanish Fork High. Bliss, son of Ferron and Julia Bliss, is majoring in business administration at SUSC. Reidhead is an accounting ac-counting major, son of Joe A. and Glenda Reidhead. The SUSC duo also competed in Data Processing I ; Bliss finishing third, Reidhead receiving honorable mention. Chi Alpha received several chapter awards including first place in Business Advocacy (Economics), National Advisory Council Leadership and Business Person of the Year, Cedar City businessman R. Haze Hunter the 1981-82 1981-82 honoree. Second place awards went to Chi Alpha Chapter for the Best Annual Scrapbook, Largest Local Chapter (80 members) and Community Service Projects which included decorating the Valley View Medical Center at Christmas, sponsorship of the Skate-a-thon during March of Dimes Week, and painting several rooms at the Cedar Manor Rest Home. Ten colleges and universities were in attendance: at-tendance: Brigham Young University, Dixie College, Utah State University, Utah Technical College-Provo, Utah Technical College-Salt College-Salt Lake, Snow College, Stevens Henager-Ogden, Stevens Henager-Provo, Weber State College, and SUSC. Three SUSC students took second in state PBL contests. A. True Ott, a junior accounting major i from Tropic, took second in both Communicating Free Enterprise and Business Law. Ricky L. Smith, a junior accounting ac-counting major from Salt Lake City, took second in Business Administration. Smith was third in Accounting Ac-counting II, fourth in Business Law, and recieved an honorable mention with Brad Hall in Executive Decision Making. Scott Johnson, a sophomore accounting major from Marysvale, took second in Economics. Hall, a senior business administration major from Henderson, Nev., also won third place honors in both Business Administration and Economics, and received an honorable mention in Business Law. Shelly Benson, a SUSC business administration major, won third in Ms. Future Business Executive and, along with the fifth place win with Annette Kerr in Excutive Decision Making, received an honorable mention in Business Administration. Benson is from Cedar City. ; Mark Kenney, a junior , accounting major from , Cedar City, won fifth , place in Business Law. r He also received i honorable mentions in t i Data Processing II and Accounting II. |
