Show SUSC golf team faces final competition CEDAR CITY Freshman Stuart Adams will lead the Southern Utah State College golf team into its final competition of the fall season Thursday and Friday at Smithfield. The Thunderbirds will be competing in the 18th annual Ev Thorpe Classic, hosted by Utah State University. The classic is named after a former USU golf coach and noted sports artist. "Team favorites will have to be Weber State and Brigham Young Univesity," Tom Kingsford, SUSC coach, points out. "There will be a large field of teams from schools in the Rocky Mountain area participating." par-ticipating." The tournament format calls for 36 holes to be played Thursday and the final 18 to be played Friday. All competition will be on the Smithfield City Golf Course. "We are generally pleased with the way our squad has looked in the fall matches," Kingsford says. "We are especially happy with the steady performances of Adams." Adams is a graduate of Vacaville, California, High School, but his parents, Dallas and Barbara Adams, now live in Spanish Fork. Bad weather prevented SUSC from completing the final round last week in the Wayne P. Farrell Invitational hosted by Weber State. Adams and junior Doug Lee, Boulder City, Nevada, led SUSC through the first 36 holes. |
