Show Safety programed planned for buses SALT LAKE CITY -Colonel Dennis J. Nord-felt, Nord-felt, Utah Highway Patrol superintendent, recently announced a new bus safety program for all of Utah's school districts. This program will be supervised through Lt. Howard E. Cooper, Utah Highway Patrol Safety inspection chief and the eight troopers located throughout the State of Utah that are assigned to the Safety Inspection Division. This Division conducts semi-annual inspections of all school buses transporting children in the State of Utah. Utilizing this established program, the Safety Inspection Division will rate each school district on a percentage basis, using a base of 5-percent. A fleet of twenty buses or less may have only one defect in order to be rated "AAA." A school bus fleet of one hundred may have only five defects in order to obtain a "AAA" rating. This rating will be determined once each year from the average results of the semiannualspring semi-annualspring and fall periods inspections. An average of the two inspections in-spections will determine whether a school district will receive a "AAA" rating for the year. If an "AAA" rating is achieved, a certificate will be awarded the school district by the Safety Inspection Division of the Utah Highway Patrol. This prestigeous award will foster and encourage pride and professionalism pro-fessionalism from all school districts in this State to maintain school buses in excellent condition con-dition at all times to further insure the safety of the school children passengers in particular, and other highway users in general. |
