Show I Qneserio usly wounded Lounge argument draws fire CEDAR CITY - An Iron County man was shot and seriously wounded early Saturday morning during an apparent ap-parent altercation in the parking lot of a Cedar City bar. Charles R. Powell, Beryl, was shot through the left arm and left chest reportedly by a single bullet believed to have been fired from a M-l carbine rifle.. According to Cedar City police, Timothy E. Foard, 28, recently of Salt Lake City, has been arrested in connection with the shooting and is in the Iron County jail in lieu of $75,400 bail. Arresting officer Dave Holm reported that the shooting took place shortly after 1 a.m. at the Playhouse Lounge, 1045 North Main Street. Allegedly, the incident occurred during an argument in a parked vehicle between Powell and Foard. Powell was taken to the Valley View Medical Center where it was determined a bullet believed to be a .30 caliber round had passed through his left forearm and entered the left side of his chest. Powell underwent surgery at WMC and was later transferred to the University of Utah Medical Center for further treatment. Officer Holm reportedly repor-tedly had stopped Foard on Main Street near Fiddler's Canyon for a traffic violation before officers had learned of the shooting incident. Foard was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol before the investigation into the assault began and was later arrested in connection with the shooting for attempted criminal homicide. The investigation of the incident was conducted by a number of Cedar City police officers and was coordinated by Iron County Attorney James L. Shumate. |
